- Blue – կապույտ (Kah-pooyt)
- Green – կանաչ (Kah-nach)
- Yellow – դեղին (Deh-gheen)
- Black – սև (Sev)
- White – սպիտակ (Spee-tak)
- Gray – մոխրագույն (Mokh-rah-gooyn)
- Orange – նարնջագույն (Nah-rin-jah-gooyn)
- Pink – վարդագույն (Var-dah-gooyn)

- Colors – գույներ (Gooyn-er)
- Rainbow – ծիածան (Tsi-yah-tsan)
Many of the colors, like pink, end in the word գույն (gooyn) which means ‘color’.
These words are made up of a thing or object with the word for ‘color’ attached to the end.
For example, the word for pink in Armenian is literally ‘the color of a rose’.
Other examples include:
- Brown – the color of a chestnut
- Gray – the color of ash
- Purple – the color of a violet flower
- Gold – the color of gold
- Orange – the color of an orange (fruit)
Some colors like blue, green, red etc don’t follow this rule.
This is because these are more basic colors that were distinguished many years ago so were given their own name.
Names for other colors were then devised years later.
