How To Say ‘How Are You?’ In Vietnamese

There are a few different ways to ask ‘how are you?’ in Vietnam. Here are the most common:

How are you? (friendly)Ban (co) kwe khom?
How are you? (shortened version)Kwe khom?

The ‘co’ in the above phrase is optional, it is often omitted in speech.

How To Respond To ‘How Are You?’ In Vietnamese

There are many different ways that you can reply to this question. Below are the most common responses to this question. I’ve also included how to say ‘thank you’ as it’s polite to thank someone if they ask how you are.

Please note that there are two ways to say ‘I/me’ in Vietnamese. ‘Min’ and ‘Toi’ both mean ‘I’ however ‘Toi’ is used in formal situations such as in business meetings or people you don’t know. ‘Min’ is used with friends and people you know well.
